Frankenstein’s Bridal

Frankenstein’s Bridal
Frankenstein’s Bridal is a satirical zine, set in a reality where more women are re-animated from dead tissue to appease their male monster counterparts, as in Mary Shelley’s 1818 novel. It incorporates sinister, silly copy and a punk-influenced gothic aesthetic in its dystopian, tongue-in-cheek look at marriage and its role in women’s oppression. The zine is a guide for Frankenbrides-to-be across various wedding conventions including dresses, decorations and honeymoons.
There are retro, hand-made image-transfer prints and textures throughout with unconventional compositional layouts, influenced by the deconstruction graphics of Ray Gun and 46pgs. This reflects the grittiness of the content and the ugly, patchwork nature of its intended audience of Frankenbrides.
The zine is complete with a translucent slip with the titles, price and barcode printed as an overlay. This serves as a bodybag for the work’s preservation for the readers’ subhuman spawn.
