Fine Art Publication
Fine Art 2023 Publication for Norwich University of the Arts
My bespoke typographic elements took inspiration from some examples of fluid, abstract sculptures I sourced from previous Fine Art students’ artwork, using only type cut and repeated. The repetition evokes the process of an artist and helps create a sense of movement throughout the book. These elements are designed to be playful and eye-catching. Some are more elaborate than others, which allows for good pacing for the reader and lets the work shine.
The typefaces I have chosen to use feel formal but not rigid, their curved, sculptural feel work well with the typographic experimentation. I have chosen to enhance the focus on the artists’ written rationales, so opted for a large point size with a single column of text for each so their words have the same impact on the page as their artwork. I think this design is successful because it showcases the work without detraction, but still has a beauty and unique quality in-and-of itself. I think the elegant, polished visual language treats the art and artists with due reverence and serves to elevate the work.
